The 12 winners have been announced. Have your say:

Unbelievable and yet oh so predictable. This project is supposed to represent Yorkshire and yet it's a Leeds based project with even Leeds in the title! I can only echo those posts that ask 'where are the artists?' This is merely a consortium of Arts Council funded organisations being commissioned to the tune of half a million to deliver, if they had pooled their resources a project they could, in all likelihood produce themselves. The project was the least memorable and imaginable of the five shortlisted and it's a travesty that it's been selected.
I loved Pilot Theatre/KMA 5circles idea was most inclusive (as opposed to exclusive - Leeds Canvas) and creative and encompassed the spirit of what the Olympics represents. I'm glad to hear it will still be happening. I hope the other projects, particularly Dennis Rollins and the Simon Armitage projects receive funding to enable them to still happen in some capacity. Genuine examples of artists truly taking the lead.

I don't understand how they could have chosen the Leeds canvas, as it has such narrow access, it is just Leeds, not Yorkshire and aside from seeing it on tv or film, which would not have the same impact, you have to actually go to the city to see it.

Geoff

So a consortium of Leeds based elitist arts organisations gets half a million quid to siphon off with some vague ideas about what it'll be spent on, much to the delight of their respective, if rather well off, supporters bases. Doesn't sound much of an opportunity to engage with the kids out in the deprived areas of the city that they'd rather pretend don't exist though.

I really would have been happy for any of the other projects to have won - they were ahead of this project by miles, and yet, it seems the (Leeds-based) panel think differently. It seems that what the public want to see has had no impact on their decision whatsoever.

Incredibly disappointing for Yorkshire. This was an opportunity to extend and embrace the arts across the region, and the one project that lacks imagination, is incerdibly vague and will do the least to involve and excite the people of Yorkshire has been chosen. Dull, drab and uninspiring - just want we want to say about this region? I'm not an artist and yes, I live in Leeds - where we have a thriving arts community and this project will not stand out amongst the many wonderful arts projects that take place in this city every year.

Where are the artists? Yet another opportunity missed!

How terribly disappointing.

Leeds-centric (as it appears the panel are) backed by a series of institutions (how is this artists taking the lead?) and a thoroughly incomprehensible and vague idea.

Was there any point in asking the public for their views?

leeds canvas - I would have put this project LAST of teh 5 shortlisted in Yorks - what a big shame not to hear the rich YORKSHIRE voices of Dennis or Simon on the radio instead of soem posh and bland woman from a theatre

Hear hear! A blatant smash and grab. The Yorkshire panel showed negligible imagination. For shame.

What a disgrace! What possible relevance do the Quay Brothers (though brilliant) have to Yorkshire as a region? Artists Taking the Lead? A fine example of the big West Yorkshire based institutions getting all the support... yet another reason to get rid of ACE.

Surprise, surprise, its all in Leeds. That is no shock seen as their is such a biased towards the city. What a waste of an opportunity to include the whole of Yorkshire instead it just benefits Leeds.

Pilot Theatre and KMA

this is no choice - it says nothing about Yorkshire - like most of the funding for ANY ART it ends up in the 'capital'.
I wanted something that would, in one form or another, be a lasting legacy.
Every tax payer in the UK has paid a lot of money for these Olympics and we have had NO say in any of it.

Very disappointing choice for Yorkshire, American's, big money and corporate institutions taking the lead! Pah!

Where are the Yorkshire Artists? Aren't they good enough?

I hope this could be an opportunity for a genuine, all inclusive cross-community partnership in its delivery and benefit. I have to admit that the proposal sounds like a bit of a high-brow pleasure for an elite few with a few token gestures to "involve the community" to tick those boxes on the forms. Come on guys, pitch it right, talk to all sections of the community, find out what they'd like to do, give them some ownership so that this draws a crowd & leaves a real legacy rather than being a bit of expensive entertainment for those who "get it".

It's a very long time since I have been so depressed about the arts in the UK. 12 incredible opportunities and after all the hard work everyone in the field has been doing for decades we have just two projects led by women artists and no black or asian artists featured at all - anywhere, across the whole country. Is this the legacy we want? Some of the projects are visionary ( I love the boat and the island)- but where are the other voices?
