It is sad how many of these commissions have gone to Arts Council Darlings who make 'accessible' work instead of to people with wonderful, freaky ideas. This one is charming, lovely, and fundamentally staid, not particularly challenging, and a crowd-pleaser all round. If only the British could see art as something to provoke discussion rather than something to bring everyone into community rituals celebrating togetherness. For those rituals, the Queen's birthday does suffice.

Lone Twin are a class company with an international reputation. What a great choice. And as for the walkway - its not the H&S Police its the Reality Check Police who stopped that one surely? A 7 mile walkway into the busiest shipping lane in the world??

Stomach-churningly twee. Guess what you get to participate in this one twice. Donate a bit of wood for the boat, and donate your taxes to pay for it.

As someone from the south and in the arts industry I can say I am proud to have this project representing our region - it gives everyone the opportunity to be involved and connect with art, bringing a piece of our own heritage or personal life to a major piece of art. I love the idea and am excited by the project!!!

Congratulations Lone Twin!
but the Room project was definitely the most appealing one.
Shame it didn't make it.

Sofia Castello's walkway to France was clearly the best idea. I can only conclude that health and safety political correctness gone mad is responsible for the panel's rejection of her vision.

Brilliant idea!

Fantastic, Boat Project by miles the best idea. I am definitely going to be getting involved and my 8 year old daughter has already suggested that she donates her wooden tricycle which she has loved so much over the years, will that be something that can be used? How amazing to make a boat out of things that mean so much to us!

Wrong region for comment. Am rubbish with these sites! Sorry.

Er, Desert Crossings anyone? The judges clearly can't judge. Bizarre decision.
