actually the discussion was opened well before selection took place, and i can tell you that public comments were quoted and discussed by Anthony and arts council during his interview! so public response was very much considered and taken into account

I love this "have your say" business AFTER the projects have been selected and nothing can be done. How democratic! If the public had a REAL chance to have their say I find it hard to believe they would choose to spend the £6m of public money in this way. Just looking at these projects makes me cringe...

Anthony McCall: UK born, UK citizen, Internationally exhibited, Globally acclaimed. But whingers, grousers, luddites, nimbys, killjoys et al never bother to read before moaning.
RTFM
I really hope that he is from the u.k and that even more importantly has a connection with the northwest. If he doesn't , what message are we sending out to our regional artists ?

Oh look, the NIMBYs are out in force once again. This project will be for a short time, during a period of celebration. Those with businesses and premises near Morpeth Dock should be pleased that the whole area will benefit from people visiting the Dock, and for once just stop thinking about themselves exclusively. Liverpool and Birkenhead are lucky to be able to benefit from such a scheme.

The cloud's made of condensing vapour, not sprayed droplets. Consulted authorities say seasonal algal blooms don't bother the summer swimmers and will disappear with treatment anyway.
RTFM
A few questions need to be asked here concerning the businesses and colleges sited next to Morpeth Dock. Given the lack of details on how exactly the mechanism to create the column works, one has to presume the column will be made of a fine mist of dock water. This water is full of blue-green algae and there are signs up warning people not to swim in it.
What consideration was made to possible contamination of premises next to the dock by this water? It's probably a simple question but when the mechanism to create the column is switched off for whatever reason, won't some of the somewhat rancid water rain over nearby premises?
Also, will the mechanism be loud enough to disturb people who work next to the dock?
Lastly, were the above people asked for their opinion before this project was considered?

Inspirational, intelligent, inclusive, imaginative, innovative - plus it can be powered from recycled sour grapes and boiling bile ;-)
Wirral Wonderer
Surely the most pointless, idiotic, tired, wasteful, depressing, backward, uncontemporary, metro-centric, self congratulatory, insulting and patronising work of art since... well, the last regeneration totem.
Unclement Greenberg
This project is a winner in my eyes, and will be even more of a winner when it comes to fruition, and I can see it from my house. I can't wait. This project suits the North West of England perfectly - adventurous, bold and not at all boring!

what a beautiful idea - so original - well done to the artist. I for one will go and visit the artwork when it's done. Good luck!

Who cares about where he's based! He's British! A great winner.

I think it's great. But it could have gone to someone based in the UK.

I think it will be fantastic for Wirral - and bring attention to the great things that are happening here!
Meg
I think it will have a regional benefit, especially to the Wirral which will benefit from visitors to a cultural landmark. I think it will be amazing, a brilliant artwork.
