So class, you have the frame now... all we need are artists to do some work to fit into the frames........Be positive now.....

We live in extraordinary times, where people are accused of being racist and bigoted if they simply prefer the ideas of another artist over someone who happens to be of Asian origin. To hijack this debate and make it into a heated discussion about race misses the point entirely, which is that this scheme was to promote art in this country, in all of its forms. For me, Sawnhey's idea was a good one, but on the back of Tan Dun's previous project, it loses some originality. That said, I liked it very much as a project, as I did the Bells and the Buildings coming Alive. I was surprised at the choice of the panel, but as with so many things in this country, especially given that the panel were not particularly distinguished themselves, it's the project that is the most moderate (and therefore least exciting) that wins. Shame.

CONGRATULATIONS BUS TOPS! have to say I was a contributor to the online debate and it was interesting to see such a heated debate, and I think that was good overall, of course it gets a bit out of hand sometimes but art is political and personal. I was over the moon to see bus tops got it....this is the only truly participatory project and for artists too, hats off to the judging panel, good choice:) They got it right!

How very Web 2.0...
We're all particpants now, don't you know?
Why don't we equip every citizen with their own unique colon cam and then we can all vote via social media for which video gets broadcast from the bus-tops?
Twitter on.

Dear Elizabeth Windsor,
I doubt if Nitin Sawhney's particularly interested in you either. You or your corgies, ma'm.

Dear Judging Panel,
I´ve just noticed that you have removed your statements for the winner from this site. Does that mean that you´ve thrown it in the dust? It has been repeated at this blog for several times, so this would not have been necessary.
I appreciate very much that you have introduced a new term of the "art public" that will surely enter the history of art. Your term is very limited as it provides apparently no access for disabled people. To "solve" this, a two-class-solution has been offered: A first-class version for all abled persons on the deck of buses (this is only a few persons) and a second-class version watching for all disabled at the web, BBC or urban screens. So the "BusTop" send a message of separation and discrimination "in all corners of the capital" like you´ve published. "There is a spirt of openness" about that that "extremely" aligns the Olympic Value of leaving a legacy by puuting up monuments of separation. I am sure that all participants of the Paralympic Games will get just as thrilled as you´ve told us.
There is no doubt that this understanding represents perfectly the attitude of London and the UK.
Very well done!
Congratulations once again!

I really admire the way Nitin Sawhney has been so generous in his comments below. He is a true gentleman and it's a shame he didn't win.
S.F.X.
One has to say we aire not interested in Nitin ainy more.
I aim keen to go to the top of a bus and enjoy mixing with commoners of all persuasions to see this art for the masses.
Ay em sure he will do the same. Bless yew all!

Dear "King Dong",
What a very sad and conceited person you are. Debra Mcmillan is a woman in a wheelchair, as she informed us earlier. Please have some manners. She has been exceedingly polite in her comment. Perhaps you could learn from that. Her views and the views of others have been derided and attacked by you several times (along with "Missy Goner" who I suspect is the same person) for their admiration and appreciation of Nitin Sawhney's idea. Please try to be civil. Thank you.

Shame Nitin didn't get this. His was a really exciting idea. something for young people, different cultural groups and people from all walks of life. His music is universal and genuinely beautiful.

Comments in other regions are either supportive or offering contructive criticism.....time to move out of London methinks.
Lots of anger here.

this is so old hat, way back in the mid 70's london print studio, developed a bus stop project, at the bus stop in Elgin Avenue Paddington London. I thought the judges were looking for innovative ideas, or is it that they are so new they have no idea what went on in the arts before they came

‘Bus-Tops’ proves that the Olympics will breath new life into all corners of the capital, transforming the previously unloved tops of bus shelters into a London-wide digital canvas for artists. There is a spirit of openness and innovation about Bus-Tops, which uses new technology to enable both artists and the wider public to become involved in developing and creating art for the city. The panel is thrilled by the idea of the 'art public', and the world-first element of revealing hidden spaces for art in the heart of the city.
NOW THIS IS TOSH!

Oh My GOD There is EVIL EVIL... Bring Back RELIGIOSITY.... DARK FORCES AT WORK! Ha ha! Debra McMillan, Please!!!!
Great to hear form Nitin... though a bit late.... I would have nipped it in the bud!
For me what lacks in this is any debate about aspiration. Clearly there is a fan club here at play....! Great! Explore and debate!
It is important that digital arts are getting an airing, it took film a long time before narrative was discovered and developed... Even digital music took ages to get off the ground..and this BUS STOP art form may also need the same development period, with games, quizzes and all the mind numbingly geeky content until we are all excited and inspired by it and all want to sit on the top deck and glow with admiration.
The Breathing Building Elliot Foxcroft concept got me thinking, and excited too. It is a more developed idea and lifts us above the operational clutter of the city. The more I think about it the better it seems now!. It is so simple and exciting. The bells could still be done if we all get together and use the technology,, maybe the Bus Stops could help to bring people together to action that one? There, a positive suggestion....! The Bells The Bells!!

I've read and been following the comments. exactly what statements from Nitin supporters are supposed to be appalling? As far as I can see, all of the comments in Nitin's favour - of which there were many - were articulate and well expressed. They were simply defending Nitin from some of the malicious rubbish and lies along with futile attempts to discredit his idea. I definitely agree that there seemed to be darker motives in continuously attacking his supporters and no one else's.
Debra McMillan
Well, that is very big of you, Nitin. Because there are a lot of supporters on this site and all over the country who greatly admire your idea, work and philosophy. It's a shame there have been so many vicious and bitter attacks on your supporters by seemingly the same one or two people! I hope you're right about the bus tops idea and that it gets to be seen by as diverse and international an audience as yours would undoubtedly have been. I also hope that your idea come to fruition some other way as it would be great!

First of all I'd just like to say congratulations to the Bus Tops team on their success. Very well done! Secondly, I've been saddened to read some of the comments posted here regarding people who do or, in some cases, don't like my idea or work. Please let's remember this is about promoting the arts generally and that's good for everyone. I'm always happy to see a wide and diverse range of people from all kinds of different cultural backgrounds at my shows (who are certainly NOT nasty or vindictive) and I'm sure those same people will get to enjoy the Bus tops idea as much as anyone. I'm also sure that Alfie and the rest of the Bus tops team are busy addressing the disabled issue as they appear to be in their comprehensive responses. They have clearly been keen to make their idea as inclusive as possible and I applaud that. Congratulations again and all the best!
